The International Gas Union (IGU) accepted the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia to the membership in the year 1954. The state was represented by its Chamber of the Economy, which occasionally informed the interested enterprises in the country about the activities of IGU. With the collapse of the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia, and the sanctions imposed by the international community, that membership was broken off. Aiming to get into touch with the world, a group of engineers contacted IGU and was encouraged to establish a national gas association and thus provide continuity of the Yugoslav membership. In bringing this idea to life, the support of the Petroleum Industry of Serbia (NIS) by all means the most powerful national organization in the gas sector was of vital importance.
This group of engineers, strongly supported by Mr Milan Mladenovic, former Assistant General Manager of NIS, was composed of:
-
Mr Predrag Jovanovic, Federal Standardization Institute, Belgrade,
-
Mr Branislav Adanski, NIS Gas Novi Sad
-
Mr Vojislav Vuletic, NIS Energogas, Belgrade.
-
Mr Radomir Jestrovic, Energo-monteks, Belgrade,
-
Mr Radivoje Milojevic, Federal Ministry of Economy, Belgrade,
-
Mr Milojko Obucina, Institut Mihajlo Pupin, Belgrade,
-
Mr Aleksandar Gajic, Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, Belgrade.
At the statutory meeting held on the 4th of February 1993, the Association's bodies were nominated: the President of the Assembly, the Superior Council and the Managing Board.
